Built in 1956, this comprehensive museum houses important Han Dynasty artifacts unearthed in the area. Here are the contents of three Han tombs belonging to thr marquis of Dai, a local aristocrat and his wife and son, they are located in Mawangdui four kilometers from the city and were unearthed between 1972 and 1974. The finds include an astonishingly well-preserved body of a woman who lived 2,100 years ago. Her body is complete, with perfectly preserved skin and most of her hair. Some of her joints can still bend and the muscular tissue is springy. On display at the museum are also more than 3,000 valuable relics.
